Book 1
Blindsighted
Synopsis.
A
small Georgia town erupts in panic when a young college professor is
found brutally mutilated in the local diner. But it's only when town
pediatrician and coroner Sara Linton does the autopsy that the full
extent of the killer's twisted work becomes clear.
Sara's ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, leads the investigation—a trail of terror that grows increasingly macabre when another local woman is found crucified a few days later. But he's got more than a sadistic serial killer on his hands, for the county's sole female detective, Lena Adams—the first victim's sister—wants to serve her own justice.
But it is Sara who holds the key to finding the killer. A secret from her past could unmask the brilliantly malevolent psychopath .. or mean her death.
Thoughts.
Although I now know you don't need to read this series before Will Trent, it's helpful. This first book gives you in site on Sarah. It also gives a back story to Lena Adams.
This incident is talked about in the Will Trent series so I already knew the who. I didn't expect that he would be written in such a mild mannered way.
Book 2
Kisscut
Synopsis.
Saturday night dates at the skating rink have long been a tradition in the small southern town of Heartsdale, but when a teenage quarrel explodes into a deadly shoot-out, medical examiner Sara Linton and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver find themselves entangled in a terrible tragedy.
Then a young girl is abducted, and it becomes clear that the first death is linked to an even more brutal crime, one more shocking than anyone could have imagined. Meanwhile, Detective Lena Adams, recovering from a staggering personal loss, finds herself drawn to a young man who might hold the answers. But unless Lena, Sara, and Jeffrey can uncover the dark truth, someone will die again.
Thoughts.
What an amazing writer! The ability to tell more than one story in the same book seamlessly is amazing!
This was all crazy and something that can happen in any town
Book 3
A Faint Cold Fear
Synopsis.
An apparent student suicide has brought medical examiner Sara Linton to the local college campus, along with her ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver. But a horribly mutilated corpse yields up few answers. And a suspicious rash of subsequent "suicides" suggests that a different kind of terror is stalking the youth of Heartsdale, Georgia—a nightmare that is coming to prey on Sara Linton's loved ones.
A small town is being transformed into a killing ground. And the key to a sadistic murderer's motive and identity may be held in the unsteady hands of a campus security guard—a former police detective driven from the force by the hellish memories that will never leave her. Lena Adams survived the unthinkable and has paid a devastating price. Now the survival of future victims may depend upon her ... when she can barely protect herself.
Thoughts;
Crazy, couldn't put this down.
These are written in a way that it's never who you expect. The author has an ability to go back and forth between the past, present and future without pause.
Book 4
Indelible
Synopsis;
Two armed men enter the police station in tiny Heartsdale, Georgia, and open fire. When the shooting stops, an officer is dead, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver is seriously wounded, and the survivors—including a class of grade-school children and medical examiner Sara Linton—are held hostage. In a tense standoff that could erupt at any moment into more bloodletting—with her ex-husband on the threshold of death—Sara must search for answers and an escape in the memories of a time at the start of their relationship when another brutal, shocking crime shattered their small-town world. Because the sins of the past have caught up with Sara and Jeffrey ... with a vengeance.
Thoughts;
At first I didn't understand why were going so far backwards, then I realized that it's because it's connected to the now story.
This book gives you not only the backstory of Jeffrey but the backstory of their relationship
Book 5
Faithless
Synopsis.
The victim was buried alive in the Georgia woods–then killed in a horrifying fashion. When Sara Linton and Jeffrey Tolliver stumble upon the body, both become consumed with finding out who killed the pretty young woman. For them, a harrowing journey begins, one that will test their own turbulent relationship and draw dozens of life into the case.
For as Jeffrey and Sara move further down a trail of shocking surprises and hidden passions, neither is prepared for the most stunning discovery of all: the identity of a killer who is more evil and dangerous than anyone could have guessed.
Thoughts;
For some reason, I had a hard time following this one.
I'm not sure what it was, these are so well written and I generally don't have any issues following along. Some of them are more exciting than others.
Book 6
Beyond Reach
Synopsis.
In a stifling jail cell in a hardscrabble Georgia town, Detective Lena Adams sits in stubborn silence: bruised, angry, and the only suspect in a horrific murder that left a woman incinerated beyond recognition. A hundred miles away, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver has gotten the call that his young detective has been arrested. Jeffrey's wife, pediatrician and medical examiner Sara Lindon, has little patience for Lena or her dramas. Fighting a heartbreaking malpractice suit, struggling to pick up the pieces of a shattered career, the last thing Sara needs is to see Jeffrey playing Lena's knight in shining armor. Sara cannot guess that within days she herself will be at the center of a bizarre and murderous case.
For Lena has fled back to the place where she grew up hard, careening back through the shadows of her past and into a shocking underworld of bigotry and rage. The man who raised her is slowly killing himself with drugs. The man who beguiled—and beat—her is reaching out from prison. And now only Jeffrey and Sara can free Lena from the web of lies, betrayal, and brutality that has trapped her—as this powerhouse of a novel races toward its shattering climax...and a final, unforgettable twist.
Thoughts;
Wow, this was a good one. I kept going the whole time because being the last book in this series and the fact that I read the Will Trent series first, I knew Jeffrey died. Spoiler it isn't until the end and it isn't at all what you think!
I honestly didn't see some of this coming. It was very well written and put together
