Chronic Pain Thoughts: Volume 39

Dear Reader,

I spent almost 10 years dealing with back pain. When it all started, I was sent to a pain clinic, for many years I received injection after injection, with no relief. I was given medications that were being used off label or that made everything worse. I've had more MRI's, CT scans and x-rays than I can count.

I was about done; I was about to just live with the fact that some days I couldn't walk. I had been told by so many doctors that I just was like this and nothing they could do about it.

I wrote a letter to a local pain doctor, with my records and asking for them to try something different. They listened. They actually referred me to another pain clinic who helped me. It took all summer to get everything set and in December 2024 I had disc replacement surgery at L4/L5. Recovery was much easier than I imagined it would be, and I was back to work within 4 weeks.

I am almost 6 Months out and although I still have pain everywhere, my back doesn't hurt!

There hasn't been a time since the surgery that I could barely walk, or my back hurt too much to do anything. In the past, I've missed out on things because of pain, I've canceled because of pain and now I can do almost all the things.

If you feel like you aren't being listened to, find another provider. I know that's easier said than done but keep going until you find someone.
