Story Line.

When his supervisors at the CIA refuse to take action after his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack, a decoder takes matters into his own hands

Thoughts:

This reminded me of Jason Borne with Rami Malek. I like Rami as an actor, I think he can do almost anything, from a vampire to Queen to this.

Although this had a slightly different plot, with him being an analyst vs field agent, it had the same feel as most spy movies.

This was decent and went on a different direction that I Thought it would.

CAUTION; Spoiler Alert

CIA cryptographer Charlie Heller is restoring an old Cessna as a present from his wife, Sarah, who leaves for a business trip in London. At the CIA's Decryption and Analysis division, Charlie has befriended a field agent, Jackson O'Brien, code name "The Bear", and an anonymous source, code name "Inquiline". Classified files from Inquiline reveal Special Activities Center Director and Charlie's boss, Alex Moore, disguised politically-motivated drone strikes as suicide bombings. Charlie is subsequently brought to CIA Director Samantha O'Brien, who informs him that Sarah has been killed in a terrorist attack.

A grieving Charlie soon presents his own findings. After an arms deal gone wrong, the four assailants took Sarah and others hostage, killing her before escaping. Charlie identifies the suspects – Belarusian criminal Mishka Blazhic, South African ex-special forces operative Ellish, former Armenian intelligence officer Gretchen Frank, and elusive mastermind Horst Schiller, Sarah's killer – but Moore and his deputy, Caleb Horowitz, insist they are working to take down Schiller's entire network. Determined to avenge Sarah, Charlie confronts Moore with his incriminating orders that caused hundreds of civilian and allied casualties. Threatening to leak the information, Charlie demands the resources and mission specific training at "The Farm" to personally hunt down the four assailants.

Sent to train with Col. Robert Henderson at Camp Peary, the gun-shy Charlie excels at bomb-making, but Henderson declares he is simply not capable of killing. Searching Charlie's home and office, Moore and Caleb discover a CD he hid in a bar's jukebox, but realize he was bluffing. Henderson is ordered to eliminate Charlie, who bugged the files he left in Moore's office and has already left the country.

Charlie tracks down Gretchen in Paris and follows a lock-picking tutorial to break into her apartment. He discovers Gretchen's appointment at an allergy clinic and takes a gun, but cannot bring himself to shoot her. Haunted by memories of Sarah, he traps Gretchen at the allergy clinic in a hypobaric chamber that he fills with pollen. Charlie demands to know Schiller's location, but is unwilling to let Gretchen die and releases her. Gretchen escapes to the street and is fatally struck by a van.

Taking Gretchen's phone, Charlie flees to Marseille where Henderson corners him in a bar, but he sets off an explosion in the bathroom and escapes. He requests Inquiline's help and is smuggled to Istanbul, where Inquiline reveals herself as the Russian widow of a murdered ex-KGB officer, having taken his place as Charlie's source. They trace Blazhic to a luxury hotel in Madrid. Meanwhile, Samantha learns Moore has sent Henderson after Charlie, and distrusting her subordinate, deploys her own operative to protect Charlie.

In Madrid, Charlie confronts Blazhic as he swims in the hotel's rooftop pool, having rigged scuba equipment to decompress the air between the pool's sheets of glass. When Blazhic refuses to cooperate, Charlie shatters the glass and sends him plummeting to his death. He is nearly apprehended by Henderson, who is attacked by Samantha's operative; in the struggle, Henderson is shot but kills the operative, and Charlie escapes. Caleb realizes that Charlie is communicating with someone and tracks down Inquiline. He contacts the Russian KGB station chief and a Russian FSB strike team is sent to Istanbul, and Inquiline is killed as she flees with Charlie.

Charlie tracks down Ellish in Romania under the guise of selling him missiles and traps him with an improvised explosive, forcing him to reveal that Schiller operates from a ship on the Baltic Sea. He takes Ellish's phone and leaves him to die in the explosion. Charlie arrives in Primorsk to spy on Schiller's operation. The Bear confronts him, but Charlie refuses to end his vendetta.

Charlie is captured and brought aboard Schiller's ship, coming face-to-face with Sarah's killer. Schiller offers him a loaded gun and the chance to take his revenge. Instead, Charlie reveals he has hacked the ship, steering it to the Gulf of Finland where Schiller is taken into custody by Finnish police and Interpol. Moore and Caleb are arrested for their unsanctioned operations, and Samantha announces that the agency has purged its bad apples. After being visited by a recovered Henderson, Charlie finishes his plane's restoration and takes it for a flight.

Chronic Pain Thoughts: Volume 40

 Dear Reader,

While doom scrolling Facebook reels, I came across Claudia Merandi from The Doctor Patient Forum. I am empowered. There are so many things I didn't know.

What I do know is this:

In 2012 when my back started to hurt, I ignored it for a while, doing things I would normally do until I couldn't. I then went to the doctor as I could no longer stay active. I was sent to Pain Management who did a series of injections, I then started to get pain in my whole body along with this “running” sensation. I was diagnosed with Fibromylagia and given Gabapentin and Muscle relaxers. I wasn't happy with my treatment as I was feeling worse and not better, so I found another provider.

I happily went to Wisconsin Spine & Pain (Called something else at the time). I was given tramadol and switched to Lyrica. I went through years of medication switches and injections before I had had enough. I then found and wrote to another pain provider about my history. Once I switched in 2023, I knew things were off, but I had to keep going.

I was taken off tramadol as I'd already gotten off Cymbalta thanks to Cymbalta Hurts Worse on Facebook. I was told that tramadol was making my pain worse. How? I couldn't do anything that I used to be able to do. I went from being active (getting those 10,000 steps a day to barley 2,000) to nothing. I couldn't stand, walk or bend.

As you know from my previous post that I got Disc Replacement surgery, because that pain in my back? Was made worse by everything I went through. My back currently doesn't hurt but I still experience widespread pain all the time.

Through the years I've experienced the following treatment suggestions:

*Lose weight (where? I'm 5 feet tall and 110 pounds naturally after having 4 kids)

*Try Swimming (I hate swimming and once I get “cold” it's over for me)

*Try Yoga (I did both before, during and after)

*Strengthen your core (Duh, isn't that was Yoga was for?)

*Physical Therapy (I've exhausted my insurance benefits for this multi years)

*Medications: Tramadol, Cymbalta, Gabapentin, Lyrica, Meloxicam, Celebrex and multiple others. Notice how only one is actually for pain and that didn't work

*Read a book (I've got multiple titles of books that should “help me”)

*Try counseling (I have thanks)

*I've had several of the following injections: Epidural Steroid, Facet Join, Medial Branch Block, Nerve Blocks, Radiofrequency Ablation, Trigger Point, Sacroiliac Joint, Caudal (this one worked but they only did it once and refused to do it again) and Injections into my hip and neck.

*Change your diet (I've done this several times over but again, have to watch my weight, being such a small person it's not worth being accused on having an eating disorder)

I've been raw dogging it with 4x Ibprofen, 2x Tylenol and 1 Tizadine twice a day. I don't have any other choices. I can't be put into the position again; I can't go in once a month.

I'm just an adult in pain asking to be trusted to take my medications without humiliating drug testing and monthly appointments that I can't afford.

Books: The House of my Mother (Shari Franke) Caution Spoiler Alert

The House of My Mother:

A Daughter's Quest for Freedom

Author; Shari Franke

Purchase at Amazon, Barns & Noble and Nook

Synopsis.

A hard-hitting tell-all that sheds light on a family raised through social media. This honest and at time harrowing account pulls no punches on what was happening behind the scenes of the YouTube sensations.

Thoughts.

I never watched 8 passengers during the craze but was aware of them. I am a huge fan of pop culture, celebrity gossip and the like, I just don't always get into watching things like this on YouTube.

I always felt like channels like this were weird, hokey and all staged. Now we know exactly what's going on behind the scene and we've seen this before.

This book gives you a raw, first hand account of what was going on. All the before, during and after. I honestly couldn't put it down and I knew nothing about all of this except for the documentary I watched!

Michaela's cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it's time for an intervention. When Devon tracks her sister down to say WTF, she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be. Told over the course of one explosive weekend at The Kells' lavish beach estate.

Thoughts:

I liked this from the jump, it took my husband two full episodes to start to like it. It's a good show and will leave you guessing.

I thought everything was great, the show started off strong and stayed strong. It's not very long, only 5 episodes. I encourage you to give it at try!

It didn't go where I expected it to and it didn't end how I thought it would.

Episode Guide

Episode 1

After spending the night in jail, Devon sets out to find her younger sister Simone to get her to come home to Buffalo and help care for their father Bruce, who has been diagnosed with early-onset dementia. She tracks Simone to an isolated, ultra-wealthy estate on the island of Port Haven owned by Michaela, a former attorney turned bird sanctuary founder, married to Peter, a billionaire. Devon discovers that Simone, working as Michaela's personal assistant, is deeply embedded in a curated, performative life—she is in a secret relationship with Michaela's eccentric neighbor Ethan and hides her past, including being in foster care and having a sister. Devon becomes increasingly disturbed by the estate's strange cult-like dynamics, strict rules, NDAs, and constant surveillance. Her unease grows as she observes Simone's unsettling closeness with Michaela. Simone refuses to return home, and Michaela offers Devon $10,000 to leave quietly, which Devon angrily declines. Devon confides in a worker named Jose about her struggles with hypersexuality after unsuccessfully trying to seduce him and spends the night with Morgan, the captain of Ethan's yacht.

Episode 2

Devon trespasses onto Michaela's estate, determined to convince Simone to leave and return home. Their reunion escalates into an argument, with Simone mentioning Devon's affair with her married boss, Raymond. They are interrupted by Michaela, who orders Jose to escort Devon out. Acting on Michaela's instructions and without Simone's knowledge, Devon is arrested for trespassing. While in jail, she hears rumors that the estate is a cult and that Michaela pushed her husband Peter's ex-wife, Jocelyn, off a cliff. Michaela later agrees to bail Devon out of jail on the conditions that she stay just for the weekend and avoid further disruptions. Determined to rescue Simone, Devon decides to stay and blend in. When she crosses paths with Peter, who just came back from Tokyo, she unsubtly questions him about Jocelyn, but his evasive answers deepen her suspicions. As Michaela prepares for a Vanity Fair photoshoot focused on her bird sanctuary—followed by a lavish bird funeral—she and Peter learn Simone has been sneaking out at night to meet Ethan. Fearing Michaela's reaction, Simone hides and has a panic attack. Alerted by Jose, Devon finds her in hiding and comforts her, having previously discovered that she has stopped taking her Klonopin.

Episode 3

After waking up, Simone finds herself in yet another argument with Devon, during which Devon reveals that since Simone went to college, she has struggled with alcoholism and has been arrested twice for DUI. Meanwhile, Michaela discovers that the chocolate Peter gave her, supposedly from Tokyo, was not authentic, prompting her to suspect he might be cheating on her. She sends Simone to spy on him, but Peter catches her and admits he had secretly traveled to meet his grandson for the first time. He kept this from Michaela because of her strained relationship with his children. After the confession, he tries to kiss Simone, but she recoils. Throughout the day, Simone tries repeatedly to reach Ethan, to no avail. Devon begins to suspect that Michaela has something to do with Ethan's sudden disappearance. The situation escalates when they go to Ethan's house to search for him—only for him to walk in, having just returned from Buffalo, accompanied by Bruce and Raymond, who has been acting as his caregiver. The room falls silent as Ethan explains his absence—then stuns everyone by proposing to Simone on the spot.

Episode 4

During Ethan's proposal, Michaela arrives at his house looking for Simone. Overwhelmed, Simone does not give an answer and runs out crying. Michaela consoles her, advises against the engagement, and offers her a position as the foundation chair in New York City. Michaela and Peter reconcile after she realizes he has not been unfaithful. That evening, Ethan, Devon, Bruce, Raymond, Morgan, and others have dinner at Michaela's house, where Peter invites them to a humanitarian gala dinner for the bird sanctuary they are organizing the next day. Simone tells Devon she feels no responsibility toward their father, citing years of neglect, her suicide attempt, and blaming him for their mother's suicide, leading to an argument between the sisters. Devon storms out to the beach, followed by her flings Morgan and Raymond, where she ends her toxic affair with Raymond. Later, Simone speaks with Ethan and clearly ends their relationship. Drunk and distraught, Ethan lashes out at Simone and accidentally falls off a cliff. The Vanity Fair photographer arrives at Michaela's home, revealing a secret photo he took of Simone and Peter's kiss, igniting Michaela's fury.

Episode 5

Ethan survives the fall from the cliff. Morgan invites Devon on a month-long yacht trip, but she declines in favor of returning to Buffalo with Bruce. Prompted by the kissing photo, Michaela fires Simone, leaving her in a state of shock. Jose escorts Simone, Devon, and Bruce to pick up Raymond from jail, where he had spent the night sobering up. During the pickup, Simone runs off to say goodbye to Peter. Jose drives back to retrieve her. At the gala dinner, Devon accuses Michaela of running a cult and being involved in Jocelyn's death—only to learn Jocelyn is alive, living in seclusion after a failed plastic surgery. Peter tells Michaela he wants a divorce and confesses to feeling uninspired, resenting their childlessness, and fearing Michaela's collection of evidence of his affairs—meant to protect her under the prenuptial agreement. He begins a relationship with Simone and asks Jose to escort Michaela out. Devon confronts Simone about her involvement with Peter. Simone invites her to stay at the estate with Bruce, but she declines. On the ferry home, Devon runs into Michaela and apologizes for her accusations, and Michaela encourages Devon to cash the $10,000 check she gave her. Simone, now mistress of the House on the Cliff, gazes out to sea with a satisfied smile on her face.

Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson

Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross

Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres

Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph

Carl Lumbly as Issiah Bradley

Tim Black as Samuel Sterns

Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder

Liv Tyler as Betty Ross

Story Line.

Some time after the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson has now fully embraced his title as the new Captain America. Now Sam is summoned to the White House as the new president Ross wants to work with him on rebuilding the Avengers. But trouble ensues when Sam's friend Isaiah Bradley uncontrollably tries to assassinate the president and is framed for the attempt. Now Sam and his partner Joaquin Torres must race against time to uncover the true culprit and foil an evil plot that unwittingly involves President Ross

Thoughts:

The movie itself didn't seem interesting to me, I just don't feel like it fits. I can't put my finger on the why.

It was available and we've watched almost all the others, so we figured we'd give it try

It was missing a ton of backstory, things that just weren't there, but it touched on other things (like Harrison Ford replacing the original actor who died) but there was something else missing, or just off.

Not sure if it was the witty banter of all previous avengers/character movies or if it was something else

All in all, I'd say it was decent.

CAUTION; Spoiler Alert

Five months after Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford) is elected president of the United States, he sends Sam Wilson / Captain America (Anthony Mackie) former Para-rescue man who was trained by the military in aerial combat using a specially-designed wing pack and Joaquin Torres / Falcon (Danny Ramirez) a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force who takes on Wilson's former mantle of Falcon, using a similar wing pack, to Oaxaca, Mexico, to stop the illegal sale of classified items stolen by Seth Voelker / Sidewinder (Giancarlo Esposito) and his mercenary group Serpent, a violent special-ops team.

This is significant as Ross, as a military General, was always reluctant to work with Captain America previously. Ross had made it his life mission to hunt down the Hulk, which led to the rampage in New York and also led to the bitterness between Ross and his daughter Betty (Liv Tyler). Betty resents her father for his obsessive pursuit of Bruce Banner / Hulk years prior.

Wilson and Torres recover the items, but Sidewinder escapes. Torres is excited to be taking on Wilson's former mantle of Falcon, but Wilson is hesitant to involve Torres in dangerous missions due to the pair not having superpowers like former Captain America Steve Rogers. After the mission, Wilson and Torres train with Isaiah Bradley, a super soldier who was imprisoned and experimented on by the U.S. government.

The items were headed to Japan, and Sidewinder was given $50 million to steal it and to bring it to the buyer for an exchange. But the buyer never showed up, indicating that Serpent was set up and played by an entity.

Leila Taylor (Xosha Roquemore) is a Secret Service agent working for President Ross who has a history with Wilson.

Ross invites Wilson and Torres to a summit with world leaders at the White House, and Wilson accepts on the condition that Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) an African-American Korean War veteran and super soldier who was imprisoned and experimented on for 30 years is also invited. Ross asks Wilson to help him reform the Avengers. Bradley did not want Captain America to report to the President. Wilson says that he has a friend in the White House, who will inform him if the President acts out of turn.

During the summit, Ross explains that a new metal, Adamantium, has been discovered on "Celestial Island", which was formed when the Celestial Tiamut emerged in the Indian Ocean. The recovered items were the first refined samples of the metal and were stolen from a Japanese mining operation. To avoid an arms race, Ross proposes a treaty to govern Adamantium's mining and distribution. As he is talking, the song "Mr. Blue" plays and causes several men, including Bradley, to begin shooting at Ross and other dignitaries. Apprehended by Ross's head of security, former Black Widow Ruth Bat-Seraph (Shira Haas), the men regain their senses and deny any knowledge of the attack.

Wilson convinces the President to let him investigate the matter, but Ross assigns Ruth instead. Wilson is adamant that Bradley was in control of an external entity when he attacked the President. Wilson believes that the control method is through trigger words, as with Bucky Barnes. Looking the CCTV footage of the White House, Torres finds that before the summit, Bradley's phone was flashing at him and the same thing happened to the other shooters as well.

While investigating, Wilson is ambushed by Sidewinder and captures him. Wilson knows that Sidewinder did not enter US only to kill him, so he speculates that the Sidewinder has reconciled with the buyer and wants the Adamantium back. Sidewinder says that the buyer told him a lot and paid him double to take out Wilson.

Meanwhile, India and France refuse to ratify the treaty till Japan is on-board. Ross travels to Japan to get the Japanese to sign the treaty. Meanwhile, 2 shooters in custody are shot down by a guard. When Ruth finds the guard, he commits suicide and the "Mr. Blue" song was playing on his communication device.

Torres tracks a call on Sidewinder's phone to a hidden black site in West Virginia called Camp Echo One. Ross tries to salvage the treaty, but the Japanese government blames him for the theft of their Adamantium and the subsequent White House attack. Ross realizes that the mastermind behind these events is Dr. Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson), who gained advanced intelligence after being exposed to the blood of Bruce Banner / Hulk during the Abomination's rampage through Harlem.

Wilson and Torres find Sterns and learn how he uses technology and the song "Mr. Blue" to control minds. Sterns was also the buyer who hired Sidewinder to steal the Adamantium hoping that it would put US and Japan on the path to conflict. Sterns escapes while they are fighting mind-controlled soldiers. Wilson also finds a file on Ross, indicating that Ross was taking some pills under supervision from Sterns.

Ross sends Bat-Seraph to secure Camp Echo One, where she finds and helps Wilson and Torres. The trio meet with Wilson's military friend Dennis Dunphy (William Mark McCullough), who has Sidewinder in custody. Wilson learns enough from Sidewinder to deduce Sterns's plan to destroy Ross's reputation.

Wilson learns from Sidewinder that Ross imprisoned Sterns at Camp Echo One, publicly blamed him for the Abomination's actions, and promised to release him if Sterns helped advance him to the presidency. Ross made Sterns make technology and weapons for the state.

Japan blames Ross for stealing the Adamantium himself and then present it as a peace offering at the summit. They reject Ross' peace offer and advance their own Navy to Celestial Island to take complete control of the Adamantium, followed by the navies of India and France. Wilson, Torres, and Bat-Seraph go to Celestial Island where Ross and Ozaki (Takehiro Hira), the Prime Minister of Japan, are racing to claim ownership of Adamantium. Ross had sent the Carrier Group 5 to secure US interests.

Wilson flies out to the Indo-Pacific Ocean where Ross is leading the US fleet. Ross tells Wilson that he is dying of heart failure and had Sterns develop pills that have prolonged his life. Ross refused to release Sterns for fear that he would no longer make the pills, leading to Sterns's anger and plans for revenge.

Sterns takes control of the minds of two American pilots and makes them attack the Japanese fleet. Wilson and Torres intercept the planes and convince the Japanese to stand down, but Torres is critically injured in the fight.

Back in the US, Torres undergoes surgery, as things start to go back to normal. Wilson is consoled by his friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). Wilson believes that he had Sterns and allowed him to escape, and doubts his own ability as Captain America. Sterns kills Dunphy, who learned that the pills have been adding gamma radiation to Ross's body and surrenders himself to Wilson. Sterns's arrest and connection to Ross are publicly revealed while the latter is at a press conference.

Ross loses control of his emotions and transforms into a red Hulk, destroying part of the White House. Wilson injures Ross enough that he can be reasoned with and reminds Ross of visits to Washington, D.C.'s cherry blossom trees with his estranged daughter Betty. Ross reverts to normal.

After the incident, Bradley is exonerated, Wilson invites a recovering Torres to join the Avengers, and the treaty is ratified. Ross resigns and has himself incarcerated at the Raft, where Wilson and Betty visit him.

An imprisoned Sterns warns Wilson of a coming attack from other worlds.
