Chronic Pain Thoughts: Volume 16

 Dear Reader,

Today's episode is “What the Shit”. I am going to talk about things that I always thought were embarrassing, I've always been led to believe you don't talk about these things to people, anytime I've tried people look at me like I'm crazy!

I've had stomach issues as far back as I can remember. I vividly remember telling my mom around 8-Year-old that my stomach really hurt every time I ate.

I also remember that day, while in Catholic School, that the first wave hit. I was crampy, dizzy and had massive diarrhea. I literally was so embarrassed as the kid's made fun of me already, I didn't need to add any more fuel. I couldn't leave the toilet and had to have one of those mean girls go get a teacher. From this point on I just learned to deal with it.

Things only got worse when I got my period. I was still told by my nurse mom that all this was “normal growing pains”.

I was always so embarrassed by this, I have been to several different doctors in my adult years, only to be dismissed. It's frustrating and life altering to deal with stomach issues like this. I've spent more times that I can count in public bathrooms, blowing them up. The last time was at Disney World!

Why am I telling you this? Because I'm not embarrassed anymore, I'm frustrated! I am 44-year-old women who suffers from chronic pain and a bad stomach! I'm sick of being ignored, I'm sick of being told “It's normal”, or “It's just in IBS or in your head.”

After ignoring my issues for year, I ended up having emergency gallbladder surgery, then ended up with pancreatitis. I'm done ignoring my symptoms and am putting my foot down that this is worse than IBS.

I have proof this time. During my 2-week hospital stay I had 3 CT scans and 2 of them say positive for Colitis. No one followed up with me about this, so once I saw it and started having major issues again, I made them aware.

My point is, if you feel like something is wrong, speak up. If you feel like things are worse than what the doctor is telling you, say something. We have to speak up for ourselves, our healthcare has changed to the point where we are needlessly suffering!

Story Line;

Jack Kelly (Bill Burr), Connor Brody (Bobby Cannavale), and Mike Richards (Bokeem Woodbine) are best friends, business partners, and old dads. After agreeing to sell their throwback sports apparel company, they're excited to punch their tickets to the lives they've always dreamed of. But when the company is made over by an eccentric new millennial CEO (Miles Robbins), Jack's anger boils over, creating a series of crises at work, home, and his son's ultra-progressive preschool. In the aftermath, Jack and his fellow old dads must fight to win back their families and self-respect on an unlikely quest that takes them from Palm Desert casinos to strip clubs to the e-scooter-riddled streets of Los Angeles

Thoughts:

This movie was funny, quirky and full of so many truths! I understand the rage felt by the older men in this movie.

This was one of those movies that had heart behind it and you could feel it in the acting. I loved it

Jack Kelly (Bill Burr), Connor Brody (Bobby Cannavale) and Mike Richards (Bokeem Woodbine) have been friends and colleagues for decades. Now in their 50s, they struggle with the modern world and how they are expected to behave. For example, when Connor tries to get his son Colin (Dominic Grey Gonzalez) to apologize for hitting, his wife Cara (Jackie Tohn) reprimands him. Deciding to sell their business Trifecta to some millennials, but kept on as employees, they are shocked when the hipster new boss Aspen (Miles Robbins) fires everyone over 35 except them. Moving away from simply selling throwback team jerseys, the company is modernizing, becoming both gender- and carbon-neutral.

Jack gets publicly chewed out by the director of his son Nate's pre-school (Rachael Harris) for being two minutes late and responds with the coarsest of vulgarities. His wife, Leah (Katie Aselton), forces him to apologize, as a recommendation will be needed from her for private kindergarten admission, and she points out he has anger management issues. When Jack and Leah go to the school to apologize to the director, she makes him do it to the group of parents and kids. A few pinpoint the specifics that upset them, he apologizes for each. However, Leah points out Jack must continue to be on his best behavior for the next three months so the director gives Nate a recommendation.

Meanwhile, divorcé and father of two adult sons Mike arrives home to a surprise. Although he had had a vasectomy, his young girlfriend Britney (Reign Edwards) divulges that she is pregnant. Later, the three friends meet at the bar and Jack and Connor try to get him to look on the bright side.

As Jack has been asked to organize the school fundraiser, he and Connor are made to feel marginalized by the millennials. Then, the three friends are sent to find Ed Cameron (C. Thomas Howell), a man who has chosen to be off grid since the 1980s, to convince him to represent the company. Travis (Justin Miles), one of the young employees, accompanies them. As the old friends' banter, he calls them misogynistic. Mike calls him out for his superior attitude, proving through his love of modern music that he is not always politically correct either. When they hit an armadillo, Ed comes to collect it.

Meanwhile, Leah comes across Cara. Colin walks up and hits her pregnant stomach. When she warns him, he blatantly punches it. Cara defends him and the women argue. At Trifecta, although the trio were successful recruiting Cameron, Aspen fires them as a hidden camera in the rental car caught their misogynistic banter. Even Travis is sacked, as his TV camera captured him singing strongly worded rap lyrics as he started his day.

Afterwards, Mike cuts off ties with Jack; Connor is not allowed to have contact because of Cara's anger at the Kellys, so Jack focuses on the school fundraiser. Everything goes well until he has another blow up, resulting in Leah kicking him out. Jack and Mike coincide in a late-night eatery. They make peace, then pick up Connor for a casino bachelor party road-trip, as Britney insists, they marry. They come across Aspen, who has been fired for accidentally using politically incorrect jargon and dumped. Later, at a strip club, Jack gets a call that Leah is in labor. Drunk, they are forced to get an Uber. Excruciatingly slow, they end up grabbing small electric scooters to complete the journey.

Missing the birth, Jack still makes up with Leah and vows to go to therapy. In the end, they opt for public school for Nate and Jack has learned to control his temper. Mike proposes to Britney properly and Connor gets Cara to lighten up.

This was such a great well written book!

Not so many twists and turns, but a which neighbor is a killer?!

Loved this and with everything going on within the story you have no idea who the real killer could be. It's almost always the husband, almost.

I was not expecting who killed the person in question.

Things that drive me crazy.

No vendor or scent name on labels. This is basically advertising and why wouldn't you do it? Plus, if I get or send to someone else and they or me want more, how do they know who to buy it from?

All over prices. I have been noticing vendors lately have 2 ounces of one shape for a certain price, then the same ounces of a different shape for a different price. This is a huge turn off for me

Restocks that only have certain quantities and the sell out right away. I have no tolerance for that and just won't order

Vendors who take a single scent and make it sound like a blend. I feel like this is duping your customers and shouldn't be done. People who do empty videos, who are also vendors, that review their own product.

Vendors who get involved in other people's drama.
