Chronic Pain Thoughts: Vol 44: Gabapentin

 Dear Reader,

In the process of trying to figure out why my brain function is declining I came across this article on Gabapentin. Which, anyone with chronic pain has been put on.

Gabapentin Study 2025

The 2025 studies on gabapentin have raised significant concerns about its long-term use, particularly its association with increased risks of dementia and cognitive impairment. These studies have been published in reputable medical journals and have been widely reported, contributing to a growing legal and ethical debate surrounding the drug's use. The findings suggest that gabapentin may not be the safest alternative to opioids, especially when used for chronic pain management.
The studies emphasize the need for careful monitoring and consideration of cognitive risks when prescribing gabapentin, particularly for patients with a history of cognitive decline or those taking multiple prescriptions. The ongoing legal and ethical discussions highlight the importance of transparency and accountability in the pharmaceutical industry, especially when it comes to the long-term effects of medications that are often deemed safe and effective

This isn't listed on med watch for the FDA, go figure. They are in the pockets of big pharma and don't want this information out. However, according to an article

The legal issues surrounding gabapentin in 2025 resemble a morality drama in that they involve the collision of science, ethics, and accountability. Pfizer’s Neurontin, which was once hailed as a surprisingly successful substitute for opioids, is now at the focus of a growing litigation that calls into question not only the drug’s safety but also the integrity of a trust-based system.

I would complain to the medical board if any doctor tried to put any of my loved ones on this medication.
