The
story of a family struggling to survive in a world terrorized by a
deadly, primeval species who have evolved for millions of years in
the pitch darkness of a vast underground cave system, hunting only
with their acute hearing. As the family seeks refuge in a remote
haven where they can wait out the invasion, they start to wonder what
kind of world will remain when they're ready to emerge
I am noticing Kirenan Shipka more and more now that I've watched Sabrina on netflix. This movie also has another actor from that same series.
This movie concept is one we have seen before, The Quiet Place and even Bird Box. The creatures were flying, bat type things. All in all it was pretty good
The beginning of the movie starts off with people in a cave finding the creatures. We then cut to Alley walking home from school talking about how she became deaf and adapted to her environment. At home we find that she lives with her mom, dad, Grandma and brother.
During the night they wake her up and tell her something is wrong. They all start watching the news and seeing images of the creatures. It's here they learn that silence is the key. I am really not sure why they choose to leave their home with their Uncle, but they do. They find themselves in a traffic jam and turn off the road. Glenn almost hits a herd of deer and then flips his car over a hill. He is trapped. They realize they can't get him out without help and go back to their van to re-group. Suddenly the dog starts barking and the creatures start to attack the van. Glenn realizes what is happening and start shooting his gun to draw the attention to him. While this is happening, the dog continues to bark. Hugh climbs back, opens the van and lets the dog out. Thankfully we don't have to see what happens next to the dog, even though we all know.
The family then starts walking. They can't use their van since it makes noise. They find a house and while attempting to walk through the gate, a bell goes off. The home owner comes out with a gun and starts yelling at them. She is attacked by the creatures and is killed. They figure out they have to crawl through a tunnel to get to the house. The dad goes first. He then motions for his family to go. There is a rattle snake in the pipe which stops them from continuing. A creature flies in and kills the snake, but they also attack the moms legs. A wood chipper is started which attracks and kills them allowing the family to get through the tunnel.
Ally and Hugh must take a walk into the closest town to find medicine for Kelly in order for her to survive. In the town, they find a pharmacy, find what is needed and start leaving. A man appears and wants them to stay and join them. They decline and go on their way.
Sometime later that group shows up at the house. They again ask for the family to join them, the reverend tells Hugh that “The girl is fertile”. That's when things get a bit heated. The group returns later with cell phone everywhere and starts calling them so the creatures show up. They try and steal Ally, Grandma runs after them and starts screaming. The creatures then attack. The family without Grandma realize they need to head North, so they start walking. The movie ends with Ally and her boyfiend killing creatures with bow and arrows.
