Books; Detective D.D. Warren Novels; Caution; Spoiler Alerts

Written by Lisa Gardner; this entire series of books is based around Detective D.D. Warren of the Boston Homicide unit. She is a hard working detective. These books are amazing reads. They aren't really that long and don't take much to get through because you just can't put them down!

Each book was read on my Nook App for my IPad

Alone; A Detective D.D. Warren Novel #1
Rating; Per Amazon 4.2/5

Synopsis; Alone...Massachusetts State Trooper Bobby Dodge watches a tense hostage standoff unfold through the scope of his sniper rifle. Just across the street, in wealthy Back Bay, Boston, an armed man has barricaded himself with his wife and child. The man’s finger tightens on the trigger and Dodge has only a split second to react . . . and forever pay the consequences

Alone . . . that’s where the nightmare began for cool, beautiful, and dangerously sexy Catherine Rose Gagnon. Twenty-five years ago, she was buried underground during a month-long nightmare of abduction and abuse. Now her husband has just been killed. Her father-in-law, the powerful Judge Gagnon, blames Catherine for his son’s death . . . and for the series of unexplained illnesses that have sent her own young son repeatedly to the hospital.

Alone . . . a madman survived solitary confinement in a maximum security prison where he’d done hard time for the most sadistic of crimes. Now he walks the streets a free man, invisible, anonymous . . . and filled with an unquenchable rage for vengeance. What brings them together is a moment of violence—but what connects them is a passion far deeper and much more dangerous. For a killer is loose who’s woven such an intricate web of evil that no one is above suspicion, no one is beyond harm, and no one will see death coming until it has them cornered, helpless, and alone

Thoughts;
This book was so good! It was a little boring at first, however it picked up after a few chapters.

Bobby Dodge shot and killed a man while working as a sniper. A custody battle over the child of the man from a Judge, his wife and Catherine. So many twists and turns in this book and how it plays out. This would make a great movie!

We find out that Catherine was abducted as a child and held in a pit. The man who took her is now out and is killing everyone in her sights. The Judge and his wife have secrets they don't want out and all the while trying to gain custody of Nathan.

Hide; A Detective D.D. Warren Novel #2
Rating; Per Amazon 4.6/5

Synopsis; It was a case that haunts Bobby Dodge to this day - the case that nearly killed him and changed his life forever. Now, in an underground chamber on the grounds of an abandoned Massachusetts mental hospital, the gruesome discovery of six mummified corpses resurrects his worst nightmare: the return of a killer he thought dead and buried. There’s no place to run. . . . Bobby’s only lead is wrapped around a dead woman’s neck. Annabelle Granger has been in hiding for as long as she can remember. Her childhood was a blur of new cities and assumed identities. But what—or who—her family was running from, she never knew. Now a body is unearthed from a grave, wearing a necklace bearing Annabelle’s name, and the danger is too close to escape. This time, she’s not going to run. You know he will find you. . . .

The new threat could be the dead psychopath’s copycat, his protégé—or something far more terrifying. Dodge knows the only way to find him is to solve the mystery of Annabelle Granger, and to do that he must team up with his former lover, partner, and friend D. D. Warren from the Boston P.D. But the trail leads back to a woman from Bobby’s past who may be every bit as dangerous as the new killer—a beautiful survivor-turned-avenger with an eerie link to Annabelle. From its tense opening pages to its shocking climax,
Hide is a thriller that delves into our deepest, darkest fears. Where there is no one to trust. Where there is no place left to hide.

Thoughts;
Having read the first book we knew the type of man that Bobby Dodge is. Going into this we find that he is working with D.D. Warren however he is now with the state police. She calls him into a case that has a errie similarity's to Catherine Gagnon's case.

The discovery of 6 bodies hidden in an underground bunker beneath an old Mental Asylum. One has a locket baring the name Annabelle Granger.

This book goes between the life that Annabelle led and the investigation into the found bodies. I hard a hard time putting this down. I also learned that there is a movie of this one!

The Neighbor; A Defective D.D. Warren Novel #3
Rating; Per Amazon 4.3/5

Synopsis; From a master of suspense comes a chilling new novel that explores the dangers lurking closer than you think. Because even in the perfect family, you never know what is going on behind closed doors.
This is what happened...
It was a case guaranteed to spark a media feeding frenzy: a young mother, blond and pretty, disappears without a trace from her South Boston home, leaving behind her four-year-old daughter as the only witness and her handsome, secretive husband as the prime suspect.
In the last six hours...
But from the moment Detective Sergeant D. D. Warren arrives at the Joneses - a snug little bungalow, she senses something off about the picture of wholesome normality the couple worked so hard to create. On the surface, Jason and Sandra Jones are like any other hardworking young couple raising a four-year-old child. But it is just under the surface that things grew murky.
Of the world as I knew it...
With the clock ticking on the life of a missing woman and the media firestorm building, Jason Jones seems more intent on destroying evidence and isolating his daughter than on searching for his beloved wife. Is the perfect husband trying to hide his guilt, or just trying to hide? And will the only witness to the crime be the killer's next victim?

Thoughts;
Ok, I'm officially hooked on these books! They are all so well written. So many twists and turns in this one

D.D. Warren is called in to help with a missing wife. All evidence points towards the husband but something just isn't right. Jason just isn't is who he claims to be.
When the final truth comes out it all comes out and it really isn't what you've been thinking the entire time!

Thoughts;

Look For Me; A Detective D.D. Warren Novel #9
Rating; Per Amazon 4.3/5

Synopsis; The home of a family of five is now a crime scene: four of them savagely murdered, one - a sixteen-year-old girl - missing. Was she lucky to have escaped? Or is her absence evidence of something sinister? Detective D. D. Warren is on the case - but so is survivor-turned-avenger Flora Dane. Seeking different types of justice, they must make sense of the clues left behind by a young woman who, whether as victim or suspect, is silently pleading, Look for me

Thoughts;
This book starts off with another crime with another girl who becomes a member of Flora's survivor group. As soon as the news of the main crime takes place, the two meet and figure out a plan to find the only member of the family to survive.

This book, like the others has plenty of twists and turns. I have honestly had a hard time figuring out the Who-Done-It in all of these books.

If you like crime, if you like the intrigue and suspense, I would advise you to read these books!

But D.D. and Flora are about to discover that in this case the truth is a devilishly elusive thing. As layer by layer they peel away the half-truths and outright lies, they wonder: How many secrets can one family have?

Thoughts;
There are so many twist and turns in this, it seems to be the case with all these books and I love these.

We go back and forth between Evie, D.D. And Flora. The book ends with Flora taking Eveie to meet her mother

The Guy Who Died Twice; A Detective D.D. Warren Story
Amazon rating 4/5

Synopsis; D.D. Warren was pretty sure she'd seen it all. Then a man walks into police headquarters, attempting desperately to convince the squad that he's dead. Explaining to him that he's very much alive, they finally send him on his way...and then hours later, he turns up actually dead. And it's on D. D. Warren to figure out how and why the dead man died...twice.

Thoughts;
This is a short story about D.D. Warren. The book is her telling her husband Alex the case she worked that day.

A house full of people and “staff” of the insanely wealthy turns into a “who done it”. The book goes back and forth between D.D. Telling the story and the detectives going through the case

The 7th Month; A Detective D.D. Warren Story
Amazon Rating 3.9/5

Synopsis; In her seventh month of pregnancy, D.D. should be taking it easy. Instead, she accepts a small consulting role on the set of a serial-killer film shooting in Boston. D.D. figures she'll be useful to someone for at least one night, serving as a police expert and making a little extra money in the bargain. It seems like a simple task-until the previous film consultant, a former Boston cop, is found beaten to death. Suddenly D.D.'s date with Hollywood gets serious.
Extremely pregnant, on the trail of a killer, and surrounded by a hundred and four murder suspects in the middle of a graveyard, D.D. must quickly unravel a tangled web of lies. As another cast member is attacked, D.D. realizes that like it or not, her priorities have changed-and her last desperate hope is that she can catch a killer before she and her unborn baby face mortal danger

Thoughts;
This was a super short story. It wasn't the best story line out of the bunch and just didn't seem to have as many twists and turns as the other books.

The 4th Man; An FBI Profiler/Detective D.D. Warren Story
Amazon Rating 3.8/5

Synopsis; A young woman is found strangled in the stairwell of a college library, only her sneakers missing. With no physical evidence, no signs of sexual assault, and no witnesses, all the police have to go on are the three men who were in the library with her: her boyfriend and two campus security guards...all of whom have secrets, none of whom can be proven guilty.

Five years later, ex-FBI profiler Pierce Quincy and his wife, former police officer Rainie Conner, agree to consult on the still-unsolved case, delving into deep background to comb for any clue that will lead to the woman's murderer. But with no leads and the case colder than the body, will they be able to build a case against one of the three suspects, or is there a fourth man out there? And if the killer has eluded the police this long, how far will he go to ensure justice is never served?

Thoughts;
This was a lot of back and forth between interviewing suspects. This was a nicely written story with a good twist to it!

Look for Me; An FBI Profiler/Detective D.D. Warren Story

Thoughts;

I can't say enough how good these books are written! You can see everything coming but it's hard to guess the who!
