Fear Clinic (2014) Caution; Spoiler Alert

Fear Clinic

 Fear Clinic (2014) Poster

Came out; 2014
Time; 95 Minutes

Watched on; DVD

Rating; R for bloody horror violence, disturbing images, language and some sexuality/nudity

IMDB Rating; 5.6
Rotten Tomatoes Score; No score yet

Caution; Spoiler Alert

Synopsis; A doctor works to cure patients suffering from crippling phobias by placing them inside his invention which induces and controls hallucinations.

Staring;
Robert Englund as Dr. Andover
Fiona Dourif as Sara
Felisha Terrell as Osborn
Cleopatra Coleman as Megan
Bonnie Morgan as Paige

Thoughts;

We picked this up at a used game/movie store. Of course the cover looked interesting and the fact that Freddy Krueger himself made it seem like it could be a really good movie.

My overall thoughts were, it was ok. It wasn’t overly scary and it was a little freaky. I didn’t like that the plot really came through a little more than half way through the movie.

Some of it didn’t make sense and the fact that you see Robert Englund naked twice (no frontal) in this movie is a little unsettling.

It’s a little boring at first, then gets a little better, then ends.

The Happy House (2013) Caution; Spoiler Alert

The Happy House

 The Happy House (2013) Poster

Came out; 2013
Time; ?

Watched on; Netflix

Rating; None Listed

IMDB Rating; 4.4
Rotten Tomatoes Score; Tomatoemeter 60%, Average Rating 5.2/10, Reviews Counted 5, Fresh 3, Rotten 2. 31% Liked it

Caution; Spoiler Alert

Synopsis; Their relationship on the rocks, a young Brooklyn couple heads to a remote B&B to work things out. But from the moment they arrive at The Happy House it's one disaster after another, and they soon begin to suspect they've wandered into a real life horror movie. Events escalate from weird to terrifying as they contend with the house's batty owner, her imposing son, a moody Swedish lepidopterist, a pedantic English professor, an extraordinarily rare butterfly, the world's best blueberry muffins, a .44 Magnum, a demented serial killer, and one very strict rulebook.

Staring;
Khan Baykal as Joe
Aya Cash as Wendy
Marceline Hugot as Hildie
Oliver Henzler as Hverven
Mike Houston as Skip

Thoughts;
This was a movie recommended to us by Netflix based on another movie we watched. This movie was dumb, boring and neither scary or funny. The actors were clearly theatre actors, as it’s a different acting style than movies.

The whole plot, a couple on the rocks takes a vacation, they go to this bed and breakfast called “The Happy Place”.  Hildie and her son Skip are very strange, the house rules are stranger and they other guest is a “butterfly” hunter so to speak.  The sheriff shows up to tell them a person escaped from the nearby mental facility and to lock their doors.

Low and behold the escaped person shows up and starts to “stalk” the people at the house. I think the body count was 2, 3 if you count the idiot who gets himself with the ax. Ugg….dumb.

Ansel Elgort as Gus
Nat Wolff as Isaac
Laura Dern as Frannie (Hazel’s mother)
Sam Trammell as Michael (Hazel’s father)
Willem Dafoe as Van Houten
Lotte Verbeek as Lidewij

Thoughts;
I didn’t know when this came out that it was a book before it was a movie.  I wanted to watch it even though it was a sappy movie and I generally don’t like those. I ended up getting the book as a prize winning and read it. It was pretty good.

I generally will look up the movies as I’m watching them to see who the actors are. Immediately I found it strange that they cast Shailene and Ansel as “love interests” in this movie when they were brother and sister in the Divergent series.

The movie follows very closely with the book. There are always little things that need to be cut when turning a book into a movie, books can give us more small details. This movie was already pretty long as most movies are now. It followed pretty close to the book, it was really good and the characters played it beautifully.

Staring;
Lizzy Caplan as Marlena
Jessica Lucas as Lily
T.J. Miller as Hudson “Hud”
Michael Stahl-David as Rob
Mike as Jason
Odette as Beth

Thoughts;
I remember the previews for this movie when it came out. It looked pretty good then. It was a movie I wanted to see, but never did. We found this movie at a second hand store for a whole $1.20 and decided to take the chance.

It started out pretty boring, very basic. It’s not until the “earthquake” comes that it gets really good. From this point on it’s action and crazy.

I like T.J. Miller, I used to watch Chelsea Handler on Chelsea Lately and he was a regular round table person, I have seen several movies that he is in. He was pretty young here, but still good.

As far as disaster, found footage films go, they tend to not be to my liking. I do however like monster and horror movies so the fact this was a “found footage” film didn’t at all bother me.

I wish they would have showed the monster a little more and maybe explained “where it came from” what I mean by that is, did it appear to fall from the sky, did it come out of the ocean? I know I’m a bad movie watcher because I have questions and I shouldn’t have them, that I should just enjoy the movie, but I just can’t!

Rumer Willis as Ellie
Jamie Chung as Claire
Leah Pipes as Jessica
Audrina Patridge as Megan
Matt O’Leary as Garret
Julian Morris as Andy
Carrie Fisher as Mrs. Crenshaw
Caroline D’Amore as Maggie

Thoughts;
This is what I’ve been looking for! Your classic slasher movie!!! This movie was made in 2009 and just popped up on Netflix. We decided to watch it right away and boy are we glad we did!!!

The beginning has the feel of a stupid girl type movie, but it really isn’t. When the “Prank” starts out, the audience has no idea, then as the girls keep taking it a step further, it gets better and better!!

I feel like this one kept you guessing about whom actually did it. You also wonder why they let it get so far and why they didn’t actually tell anyone of authority, you’d think one of them would have snapped during questioning. Did I also mention that Carrie Fisher is in this! “I live in a house with 30 bitches, you don’t scare me” while yielding a shotgun! Classic and I loved every second of it.

The ending somewhat actually surprised me, the who done it type thing. My daughter and I were guessing throughout the entire movie, we were wrong.

Thoughts;
This movie starts out pretty slow. It stays pretty slow, but then it gets creepy. You can see the change in Bea. Things start to go pretty crazy then and you almost feel like it’s Paul that’s going crazy.

There is some strange graphic stuff in this movie. I disliked the ending because you really didn’t know what was going on, but all in all it was pretty good.

Caution; Spoiler Alert

Synopsis; A young couple moves to the woods and soon finds their nightmares and reality colliding.

Staring;
Jon Foster as Scott
Sarah Jones as Penny
Mark Steger as Mr. Jones

Thoughts;
This movie starts out very boring. A couple on vacation, video logging their day. It isn’t until they find that they have a neighbor do things start to move. First they knock, then they just enter. Penny soon figures out that they are in the home of Mr. Jones, an artist that no one has ever seen. They then get nosey and start looking around the house, which of course is going to end badly.

The movie then changes to Scott interviewing people regarding the elusive Mr. Jones. While he is out and about doing this, Penny is alone, in the middle of nowhere.  She is caught taking pictures of the scarecrows that Mr. Jones is known for.

This is when the movie gets creepy. Once Scott gets back, they go back the house of Mr. Jones. Scott explores the  basement and goes down into this strange crawl space. He finds these scarecrows that are on fire and steals some items.

Crazy things happen and Scott and Penny are unable to leave. By the end of the movie, Mr. Jones is gone and Scott must take over protecting the world from the dream world.

Staring;

Hayley Derryberry as Sarah
Chance Harlem Jr. as Earl
Mike Holley as Mike
Jennifer Royby Jacobs as Jen
Adam LaFramboise as Adam

Thoughts;
Of course, a found footage film. Netfilx must LOVE these as all the random movies we pick out are found fottage.

This one was a little different in the fact that it was people exploring a “haunted” location vs. just filming daily life.

It was creepy and a little strange. Everyone of course dies in the movie, one by one. At first you think that the loan person will survive, but wrong.

Brenna O’Brien as young Christy
Carly Pope as Vanessa
Don S. Davis as Joseph

Thoughts;
So, this was an “MTV Movie”. I didn’t know that MTV produced movies other than Jack-Ass!

It was ok, not as good as I expected. A little slow going. It was pretty creepy but not scary enough to keep my interest throughout the entire movie.

I will say, the ending was not as expected

Christy returns to town for a funeral. She then goes by her niece and brother in law. Of course, they live in a big creepy house. Things start to go strange from there and the “past” and all the unknown stories start to creep up.

Staring;
Jonathan Tucker as Jeff
Jena Malone as Amy
Laura Ramsey as Stacy
Shawn Ashmore as Eric
Joe Anderson as Mathias

Thoughts;
I know, a 2008 movie that I’m watching now! I personally thought this movie was great. It had the perfect amount of creepyness and scare! It was obvious by the title of the movie and the fact that it’s a “horror” movie that something was going to happen. I honestly expected this to be a creature type movie, that something was living in the ruins.

There is a good amount of back story and just enough to where there isn’t much boring parts. When the taxi driver at first refuses to take them to their destination you know something is up with the place itself.

When they find the temple, or ruins, and the Mayans show up, you know things are about to “get real” and at first it seems like they don’t want their picture being taken, it isn’t until you realize that the flowers are making the cell phone noise that you really start to get the feel of the movie.

A good amount of terror takes place during this movie, it’s both good, gory, scary and creepy as they are stuck with no way out. I personally would try to figure out a way to crawl down the back side. Although when the movie ends, you realize that they are all doomed no matter what! Great Watch!!

Thoughts;
I know, a 2008 movie that I’m watching now. This movie had a great original concept. It started very slowly and was rather boring until the action started. Once the action started, it didn’t stop. It was great, it was freaky and scary all rolled into one. It had the feel of a found footage movie, but really wasn’t.

If you like the scares and freaky type movies, this is one for you!

Tyler Perry as Tanner Bolt
Carrie Coon as Margo Dunne
Kim Dickens as Detective Rhonda Gilin
David Clennon as Rand Elliott
Lisa Banes as Marybeth Elliott
Missi yle as Ellen Abbott
Casey Wilson as Noelle Hawthorne

Thoughts;
Way too long. This was a good movie, it had a great concept, but there is a ton that could have been cut out. By the end I was bored, the middle however, was great!

We see things like this all too often, where the husband is put through the ringer when he really didn’t do it. It’s a great movie in the sense that the justice systems sees guilty until proven innocent vs. the other way around.

Amy disappears on her and Nick’s 5th anniversary, the why really isn’t talked about other than she’s crazy!

It was a good movie, but not one that I would watch again just based on the length of this

Thoughts;
This movie was pretty good. It’s from director M. Night Shyamalan so it was hit or miss. Everything started right away, there really wasn’t a dull spot in this movie. There was a few things that were obvious, but my daughter and I guessed the entire movie who the devil was. We were wrong each time and it turned out to be the one we didn’t expect.

The movie comes together really good, it’s not real scary, but it does keep you guessing.

Staring;
Melanie Papalia as Elizabeth Benton
David Schlachtenhaufen as Damien Clark
Adam Shapiro as Max
Anna Margaret Hollyman as Lynn Benton
Matt Riedy as Sgt. Tisbet
Katija Pevec as Jenni

Thoughts;
This is a “found” footage type movie, but it has a different concept. The entire movie is filmed as if you are watching an actual web cam. It was slow going and a little creepy. It’s one of those movies where you have no idea who is behind it.

Things I found that couldn’t happen; At one point the computer is wiped out in a matter of seconds by a would be hacker, this would take some time as this was the hard drive and not just the computer.

The apartment or house where the boyfriend lives is cleaned out, except for his computer. This would also take time and not something that would be able to be done within the time frame this movie made it feel like.

And, I hate when you have no idea who was behind this, I am good with not being able to figure it out by the end, and then surprise! But to not know, is bothersome and not something I like in movies
