Storyline;
In this interplanetary adventure, a space shuttle embarks on the first mission to colonize Mars, only to discover after takeoff that one of the astronauts is pregnant. Shortly after landing, she dies from complications while giving birth to the first human born on the red planet - never revealing who the father is. Thus begins the extraordinary life of Gardner Elliot - an inquisitive, highly intelligent boy who reaches the age of 16 having only met 14 people in his very unconventional upbringing. While searching for clues about his father, and the home planet he's never known, Gardner begins an online friendship with a street smart girl in Colorado named Tulsa. When he finally gets a chance to go to Earth, he's eager to experience all of the wonders he could only read about on Mars - from the most simple to the extraordinary. But once his explorations begin, scientists discover that Gardner's organs can't withstand Earth's atmosphere. Eager to find his father, Gardner escapes the team

Thoughts;
My youngest daughter really wanted to watch this movie. I had heard of it but don't remember seeing the previews or anything for it. I had no idea what it was about.
I personally didn't think it was a bad movie, I saw a lot of reviews where people complained about the characters looking too old for high school kids. I'm not sure if there has ever been a cast in a movie or TV shows where the actors have actually been in high school. I remember when I learned that the original 90210 actors were into their 30's and 40's, my mind was blown!

The movie starts with Gary Oldmans character introducing the members of the Mars team along with what NASA hopes to do in the future. It seems that Sarah is the team leader, she makes a joke and then they are off. She learns while on the way to Mars that she is pregnant. Once they land, Sarah is helped from their rocket and into the space station there. She gives birth to a son, and dies shortly after.

The movie then skips ahead 16 years where Gardner is growing and is learning more and more about his mother and his family. His father is a mystery. He is also “chatting” with a girl on Earth who has no idea that Gardner is on Mars. (This part was a little fishy for me- Do they have wi-fi/internet on Mars?)

He requests training so he can get to Earth. He has only known Mars. Once all this takes place he is placed in isolation, where of course he escaped. From here, it's a chase to find him.

Gardner finds Tulsa at school and tells her that he wants to find his father. She eventually agrees to help him. They go on the run and end up in California where he meets his Uncle, he tried to “Die” in the Ocean, but is saved.

This part got to me; Gardner, Tulsa, Nathan, Kendra and another unknown Pilot fly above the atmosphere. None of the team was prepared for this long journey, Tulsa for sure would have passed out as she was not trained to go through all that., but it's a movie and it saves Gardner.

Gardner goes back to Mars. Kendra shows up at Tulsa's group home and offers to have Tulsa come live with her. The movie ends with Kendra training Tulsa to go into space.
