Book: Not a Happy Family (Shari Lapena)

 Not a Happy Family

Author; Shari Lapena

Synopsis.

In this family, everyone is keeping secrets - even the dead.

Brecken Hill in upstate New York is an expensive place to live. You have to be rich to have a house there, and Fred and Sheila Merton certainly are rich. But even all their money can't protect them when a killer comes to call. The Mertons are brutally murdered the night after an Easter dinner with their three adult kids. Who, of course, are devastated.

Or are they? They each stand to inherit millions. They were never a happy family, thanks to their vindictive father and neglectful mother, but perhaps one of the siblings is more disturbed than anyone knew. Did someone snap after that dreadful evening? Or did another person appear later that night with the worst of intentions? That must be what happened. After all, if one of the family were capable of something as gruesome as this, you'd know.

Thoughts.

This was hard to get into but once I did, I just couldn't figure it out. These are my favorite types of books, the ones that keep you guessing. Most author's write like this and I'm here for it!

I like that this book starts before the murders, gives you an idea of all the players before everything happens. It gives you insite before hand vs after and during the investigaton.

 The Pope's Exorcist

Rated: R for violent content, language, sexual references and some nudity

IMDB Rating; 6.1/10

Caution; Spoiler Alert

Staring;

Russell Crowe as Father Gabriel Amorth

Daniel Zovatto as Father Esquibel

Alex Essoe as Julia

Franco Nero as The Pope

Peter DeSouza-Feighoney as Henry

Laurel Mardsden as Amy

Story Line;

Inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican, The Pope's Exorcist follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy's terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden

Thoughts:

This wasn't any different than any other possession movie I've watched. The story about how the person became possessed was different but they usually are.

I found this to be about equeal to all others. Nothing really differently about it except that it's supposidly based on a true story from the actual priest

CAUTION; Major Spoiler Alert

Father Gabriele Amorth, the Pope's personal exorcist, and an earthy, humorous, practical man at times, arrives at a small village in Italy where a man is allegedly possessed by a spirit. Along with the local priest he enters the room where the man was tied up. While exorcising the man, he refers to the spirit as Satan and sends it into a pig which was brought in for the exorcism. As soon as the spirit enters the pig, Amorth shoots it with a shotgun.

This incident gets him in trouble with a Church tribunal, since he acted without permission from superiors. One tribunal member is a friendly African bishop, Lumumba, but one is a vicious American cardinal, Sullivan, skeptical of exorcism and even demonic possession. Amorth replies that evil does exist, and that he did not perform an exorcism, but rather, some psychological theater to help the mentally-disturbed man. Disgusted, Amorth walks out of the tribunal.

After this, the Pope assigns him to visit a possessed little boy named Henry in Spain. Henry, his mother Julia, and his rebellious teenage sister Amy travel to Spain from America to take possession of a mysterious old abbey which was Henry's father's sole bequest to his family after he died in a car accident, with Henry also present. The traumatized Henry has not spoken since the accident. Workmen, who were restoring the abbey so the family could sell it, leave after a sinister fire. Henry starts behaving bizarrely; brain tests show nothing abnormal.

Henry, satanically possessed, asks for a priest; the local Father Esquibel arrives, but Henry abuses him and says, "Wrong priest." Amorth arrives and enlists Esquibel as an assistant, though Esquibel is untrained as an exorcist. Esquibel says he has heard of Amorth, but hasn't read his books; Amorth says, "They're good books." Esquibel makes mistakes as a junior exorcist at first, including strangling Henry when Henry antagonizes him.

The duo make various attempts to exorcise Henry, without success. Henry's demon even possesses Amy at times. Amorth finds Julia has not been a religious believer since childhood, but he convinces her to pray.

In Rome, the Pope is taken sick while reading documents about the Spanish case, and is hospitalized. Amorth finds a well on the abbey grounds going down to a complex sealed off by the Church as demonically dangerous. He finds that a founder of the Spanish Inquisition was possessed while being an exorcist, which let him infiltrate the Church and do many evils, including the Inquisition. Amorth also finds the Church covered this up, and eventually finds the name of Henry's demon, Asmodeus, which will assist the exorcism.

Amorth and Esquibel reveal to each other their own, and absolve each other's, sins or traumas: that Amorth has guilt from surviving World War II as an Italian partisan, and that a mentally-ill woman asked Amorth's help, and committed suicide when he did not help her enough; and Esquibel had extramarital intercourse with young women. While this helps them bond, they are still unable to exorcise Henry, and they have horrible visions of the women with whom they failed; the exorcism succeeds only when Amorth offers himself to be possessed, which chimes with Henry's previously stating that he wants to destroy Amorth.

Amorth tries to hang himself, but the demon doesn't allow it, preferring that Amorth infiltrate and destroy the Church. However, Esquibel helps Amorth drive away the demon, and demonic appearances resembling the two women who troubled Amorth and Esquibel. The Pope recovers, as does Henry.

The triumphant duo visit Rome, and find the skeptical American bishop has taken leave in Guam, and been replaced by Lumumba. Amorth and Esquibel are admitted to a special Church archive of mysterious events; Lumumba tells them they will be helping go to hundreds of other evil sites, with the help of a map Amorth discovered at the abbey, to combat the Devil. Amorth joyfully says, "We're going to Hell!" Finally, words on the screen narrate biographical details about Amorth's papal-exorcist career, including that he has written many books, and "The books are good."

An after-credits photo of the real Amorth sticking out his tongue appears, along with his birth and death dates.

Thoughts:

The story line really isn't right. This one they all go to the Caribbean for a possible job for Marcus. Of course, things get crazy, and hilarity insures!

This wasn't as funny as the first one, they tried too hard with this one. It had the humor, but it wasn't quite right.

CAUTION; Major Spoiler Alert

A couple of years after the events of the previous movie, Marcus and Emily invite Ron and Kyla to a five-day vacation in the Caribbean, while Marcus secretly has a scheduled meeting with the Korean owners of their hotel. The arrival of an unexpected guest throws the whole trip into chaos.

This is the only thing listed. Steve Buscemi plays Kyla's father who is shady, he somehow shows up on their vacation and gets everyone in trouble.

Staring.

Lil Rel Howery as Marcus

Yvonne Orji as Emily

John Cena as Ron

Meredith Hagneer as Kyla

Robert Wisdom as Harold

Lynn Whitefield as Suzanne

Andrew Bachelor as Gabe

Story Line.

In this raw and raunchy comedy, strait-laced Marcus and Emily (Lil Rel Howery, Yvonne Orji) are befriended by wild, thrill-seeking partiers Ron and Kyla (John Cena, Meredith Hagner) at a resort in Mexico. Living in the moment, the usually level-headed couple lets loose to enjoy a week of uninhibited fun and debauchery with their new "vacation friends." Months after their walk on the wild side, Marcus and Emily are horrified when Ron and Kyla show up uninvited at their wedding, creating chaos and proving that what happens on vacation, doesn't necessarily stay on vacation.

Thoughts:

I saw a preview for the 2nd movie and then found this one! I wasn't familiar with this, but I am so glad I took the time to watch it!

First, when things “go wrong” on vacation in movies, like how this one starts out, I cringe a little because it rarely happens. If it does happen generally the people are taken care of!

This was a super funny movie; I wasn't sure where it was going to go until they got together for their wedding, and it did not disappoint!

CAUTION; Major Spoiler Alert

The film opens as a couple, Marcus (Lil Rel Howery) and Emily (Yvonne Orji) arrive in Mexico for a romantic getaway. Marcus is a bit neurotic as he wants to propose to Emily and wants everything to go right. When they arrive at the hotel, they find their room has been flooded because the couple in the presidential suite above them overflowed their Jacuzzi.

Marcus tries to get another room, but the concierge Maurillio (Carlos Santos) can only find them a crappy Best Western hotel room nearby. To make things worse, Maurillio lets it slip that Marcus was trying to propose. Left with no choice, Marcus proposes to Emily on the spot, and she accepts. Cheering them on is another couple, Ron (John Cena) and Kyla (Meredith Hagner), who happen to be the couple in the presidential suite. They invite Marcus and Emily to stay with them, and despite some reluctance, they go along with it.

The two couples get together in the suite, where Ron and Kyla give Marcus and Emily margaritas. Only after they drink it do they learn that the "salt" around the rim of the glass was actually cocaine. Later, Marcus and Emily want to go on a whale watching tour, only to find that the boat for it is packed with tourists. Ron and Kyla invite them to go out on their own boat, so they head out and Ron lets Marcus steer the boat. Unfortunately, Marcus doesn't see rocks ahead of them and the boat flips over. The four are airlifted out of there, and while Marcus wants to repay Ron for the boat, he and Kyla thought the experience was awesome as opposed to regular old sailing.

The couples spend the whole week hanging out and partying. On their last night there, the couples are out on the beach, where Ron feels that he has come to view Marcus as something of a best friend. Ron and Kyla then come up with the idea that Marcus and Emily should get married that night. They take the two to a cave where they meet a shaman that performs a Mayan ceremony to marry Marcus and Emily. Afterward, the two couples jump off the cliff into the ocean. They go back to the hotel room for more drugs and drinking, and Marcus passes out seeing Kyla on top of him, thanking him for the experience.

The next morning, Marcus and Emily are super hungover and head over to the airport to catch their flight. When they arrive, Ron and Kyla are already there just hanging out, making inappropriate jokes about Marcus and Emily as security is nearby. Ron and Kyla want to continue seeing Marcus and Emily, and they ask if they can give them their numbers, but the latter couple pretends that their phones broke, so Ron gives Marcus his business card.

Seven months later, Marcus and Emily are planning for their official wedding. Marcus, who manages a construction company, finds that his employees have gotten a suit for him. He laments not being able to invite them because Emily's parents want to keep it "intimate". When they arrive at the venue where the wedding will take place, Marcus is surprised to see that Emily's parents invited all of their family and other wealthy friends. Marcus has tension with her family because her father Harold (Robert Wisdom) doesn't particularly like him, and he also has issues with Emily's brother Gabe (Andrew Bachelor) because Marcus punched him in the face one time.

Later that night, Ron and Kyla come crashing through the gate of the venue and pretend to angrily confront Marcus and Emily for not inviting them, before they burst out laughing at the gag. Harold approaches them, and Ron immediately wins him over by showing that he is a former Green Beret. Harold allows Ron and Kyla to stay in the one room that was available - the presidential suite. When Marcus and Emily ask them what they are doing there all of a sudden, Kyla reveals that she is pregnant, and they imply that Marcus had a big part to play in this, and based on what he remembers from the trip, he freaks out.

The following morning, Harold invites Ron to join him and the others for a fox hunt, which doesn't actually involve hunting a fox, but rather chasing after one even though nobody has seen a fox around there in forever. Marcus and Ron go off together, where Ron shows Marcus which items to forage for food. Meanwhile, Harold expresses to Emily and Kyla that he didn't get along with his own father-in-law, and Emily notes the same thing is happening with him and Marcus. When the guys get to a special mushroom, Marcus eats it before Ron can explain that it is an extremely potent psychedelic mushroom. Marcus starts to trip balls almost instantly, so Ron eats one mushroom to help him. The two space out until Marcus is pounced on by what he believes is a fox attacking him. He nearly grabs a knife to kill it until Ron stops him to point out Harold and his group, revealing that the "fox" was actually Harold's dog playfully pouncing on Marcus. Harold tries to approach Marcus with respectful intents, but Marcus's hallucinations make him see Harold as a clown, and is unable to stop laughing. Ron steps in and saves him by saying that he knows Marcus wants nothing more than to make a good impression on Harold.

Ron later joins Marcus as they go golfing against Gabe and his buddy Bennet (Kamal Bolden), while Kyla continues to hang out with Emily and her family. Emily gets nervous because Kyla is giving "special" medicine to her Grandma Phyllis (Denise Burse), who is typically quiet and doesn't move around too much because of her condition. While on the golf course, Ron appears super drunk and they keep missing every hole they come across. In the middle of the game, Ron takes out a lot of money, which he reveals he got from pawning off Marcus and Emily's wedding rings. Marcus is livid until Ron wagers with Gabe and Bennet for all the money, plus Bennet's Ferrari. Ron pulls off an impressive swing on the last hole to get a hole in one.

The guys go to the pawnshop just before it closes, and Marcus gets the rings back. Ron sees a bird flying overhead, and because he earlier told Marcus that he knows when a bird is going to poop, he pushes Marcus out of the way just before he gets crapped on...and this causes Marcus to drop the rings down the sewer. He begins to freak out on Ron for causing all of this, and Ron starts telling Marcus that he helped Kyla conceive a child after doctors told him that he is sterile, seemingly confirming that Marcus really is the father of Kyla's child.

That night, the family hosts a party, where Marcus's construction buddies show up after being invited by Ron. Ron and Kyla then go up on stage to announce to everyone how Marcus has lent a hand in helping them have a baby. Before Kyla can finish her sentence, Marcus tries to own up to it himself and declare to everyone that he is the father of Kyla's baby after they had the drug-fueled sexual encounter. It actually turns out that this is not the case - after the couples did their cliff dive, Ron thinks that the impact the water landing had on his balls caused him to undo his infertility, and so he successfully impregnated Kyla. Emily stands up to admit that it was she who had sex with Kyla, and they were just on top of Marcus, who wasn't involved in it. Harold angrily berates Marcus, who then reveals that he lost the rings. When Gabe tries to berate him too, Marcus punches him in the face again. A brawl then breaks out between Gabe's friends and Marcus's construction buddies, and Marcus leaves dejectedly. On the way out, Ron and Kyla try to talk to Marcus and Emily, but the two of them snap at the other couple and say that they were never friends and deliberately avoided keeping in touch with them because of how crazy they are. Ron and Kyla are hurt and agree to leave.

On the morning of Marcus and Emily's wedding, the two believe that there won't be a wedding. Harold then comes in with the construction guys, all of them very drunk. Harold has loosened up and admits to Marcus that he has been hard on him, but he is willing to give him another chance, which Marcus accepts. Emily is then visited by Grandma Phyllis, who is now able to walk thanks to the medicine Kyla gave her. She gives Emily a note and gift from Kyla, which is an apology to her and Marcus for ruining their wedding, but also an admission that the two of them felt like their best friends in forever, especially because Ron's own best friend passed away and he didn't meet another guy like that until Marcus came along. In the box is the wedding rings that Ron spent all day fishing out of the sewers. Marcus and Emily feel really bad and set off to go find Ron and Kyla.

Emily remembers that Kyla mentioned she and Ron like to go to Waffle House, so she and Marcus go to multiple Waffle Houses until they eventually find Ron and Kyla. Although the two are still upset with Marcus and Emily, the latter two apologize, and Marcus kisses Ron's forehead, which he had earlier said is the ultimate sign of respect. They forgive Marcus and Emily, and they still want to name their baby after Marcus. They agree to go to the wedding on the condition that Marcus and Emily go to theirs.

Months later, Marcus and Emily return to the cave in Mexico along with both their families (and Baby Marcus) to watch Ron and Kyla get married. The couples then all jump off the cliff into the ocean again.

Directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback

Thoughts:

Unless you're the type to get high and watch movies, don't watch this. Or watch it for the effects which are still pretty amazing. The story line is non-existant and the acting is sub-par.

Really, I was bored out of my mind watching this and I was begged to. I can't even pretend this was decent because it wasn't

Scourge is a character from Thor: Ragnarok and he looks like Ultron, coincidence, I doubt it. Oh and somehow at the end there is a tie in to G.I. Joe.

You have been warned to not watch this!

CAUTION; Major Spoiler Alert

The film starts on the planet of the Maximals, where the maniacal Transformer god Unicron (Colman Domingo) is preparing to make his descent and consume the planet for power. Unicron sends his minions, the Terrorcons, led by Scourge (Peter Dinklage), to retrieve for him the Transwarp Key, which would give Unicron the power to access unlimited worlds to consume. The Maximals - Apelinq (David Sobolov), Primal (Ron Perlman), Airazor (Michelle Yeoh), Rhinox (also David Sobolov), and Cheetor (Tongayi Chirisa) - prepare their leave from the planet, but Apelinq stays behind to fight back while bestowing Primal with the name "Optimus Primal". Scourge, a trophy hunter, arrives and battles Apelinq alongside his Freezer drones. While Apelinq demolishes the Freezers, Scourge mortally wounds Apelinq but realizes too late that the Maximals have already escaped with the key. Unicron then proceeds to devour the planet.

1994, Brooklyn - Former soldier/electronics expert Noah Diaz (Anthony Ramos) lives with his mother Breanna (Luna Lauren Velez) and little brother Kris (Dean Scott Vasquez). Kris suffers from a sickness, and the family is struggling to earn money for his medication. Noah goes to the hospital and has no insurance for his brother to get help, and when he goes in for a job interview, he is told by the manager of the company that he has canceled the interview after speaking to Noah's former commanding officer, who says he is brave but cannot work in a team.

Elena Wallace (Dominique Fishback) works as an intern for a snooty gallery owner named Jillian (Sarah Stiles). Detectives are at the workplace because an art director got busted and might have been keeping fakes. Elena confirms for Jillian what is authentic and what is fake, but Jillian takes credit for the findings. Elena then finds a statuette resembling Airazor, complete with the Transformers insignia etched onto it. Jillian thinks it's ancient Sumerian but Elena does her research.

Noah goes to his friend Reek (Tobe Nwigwe), who convinces him to steal a Porsche being kept in the garage of another company so that he can sell it. Noah manages to sneak in and finds the Porsche, breaking into it. At the same time, Elena uses a device to look further into the statuette, but ends up breaking it and finding part of the Transwarp Key inside. This sends out a signal that awakens the Autobots, and Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) calls upon Bumblebee, Arcee (Liza Koshy), and Mirage (Pete Davidson), the latter being the car that Noah is currently inside. A security guard catches Noah, which prompts Mirage to start driving himself out of there. A chase across the city ensues, where Noah realizes the car is driving itself. As the cops get closer, Mirage demonstrates his powers by creating illusions of himself to distract the cops, allowing him and Noah to get away.

Mirage brings Noah to a facility where he morphs into his Autobot form, which freaks Noah out. Optimus and Arcee are none too pleased to find a human among them, but Bee is more trusting, and Mirage thinks Noah is fine. Optimus mentions that the key has sent out a signal and that they need to go after it so they can return to Cybertron. Noah joins Mirage as they make their way toward the art museum to get the key, but Scourge and his Terrorcon cronies Battletrap (also David Sobolov) and Nightbird (Michaela Jae Rodriguez) are already on Earth and are going after the key as well.

Noah enters the museum and startles Elena, who thinks he's an intruder. After a struggle, Noah tries to explain that he needs the key (which Elena still doesn't know that's what she's holding), and Elena only believes him when Scourge blasts a hole through the wall and kills a security guard. As the Terrorcons attempt to attack, the Autobots show up for battle. While Optimus and Bumblebee attempt to go after Scourge, the deadly Terrorcon impales Bee and blasts him in the chest, killing him while Optimus can only watch in horror. Before Scourge can take Optimus too, Airazor flies in and drives Scourge and the others away, though he has taken the key half with him.

Scourge returns to Unicron and discovers that it's only half of the key, which makes the god violently punish his disciple. Airazor explains the situation to the Autobots (plus Noah and Elena), and Elena determines that the other half of the key must be in Peru, based on the readings she looked up. Before leaving, Noah returns home to see Kris, but Mirage shows up and makes his presence obvious. Noah explains his mission to Kris and tells Mirage to promise to keep his brother safe.

To get to Peru, the gang travels inside Stratosphere (John DiMaggio), an Autobot that morphs into a rickety old plane. On the way, Noah tells Elena that they should destroy the key to prevent Unicron's arrival, even if it means the Autobots will be stuck on Earth. Once they arrive, they meet with a local Autobot named Wheeljack (Cristo Fernandez) who guides them to their location. Mirage also gives Noah a device that wraps around his wrist in case he needs to defend himself.

Noah and Elena enter an underground cavern after finding Transformers symbols and make their way down. Unfortunately, the Terrorcons have arrived as well, and Scourge sends more Freezers to go after Noah and Elena. The two find a crypt where the key ought to be, but find it empty except for some inscriptions that Elena writes down. When they are spotted, they make a run for it, and the Autobots follow. During the chase, Optimus vows revenge for Bumblebee by trying to go after Scourge, while the others take on Battletrap and Nightbird. Airazor joins the fight but she gets marked by Scourge with one of his weapons. The others just barely escape.

Noah and Elena exit the caverns and end up in a jungle where they are confronted by Primal and the other Maximals. The Autobots show up to defend the humans until Airazor tells Primal that they are allies. He tells the others that he and the Maximals moved the other key half away to keep it safe. The Maximals guide everyone to a nearby village that they protect and share an alliance with the humans that live there, as they are the ones keeping the other key half safe. Later, Primal shows Optimus raw energy that can be used to revive Bee, but it requires a large surge of energy. Meanwhile, Elena tells Noah maybe they shouldn't destroy the key and compares him to Optimus, as they are both big brothers looking out for their families.

In the morning, Airazor has become fully corrupted by the dark energy that Scourge infected her with. She begins to attack until the other Maximals try to subdue her. Primal tries to hold her down, but Airazor tells him to do what he has to do, so he squeezes her until she breaks down and dies. Noah also seizes an opportunity to destroy the key with the wrist device, but Optimus pleads with him not to do so until he relents. Unfortunately, this gives Scourge an opportunity to seize the key and make his way back to Unicron.

Scourge and the Terrorcons fuse both halves of the key together and create a platform over a volcano to summon Unicron. After Optimus and Noah realize their actions have made things worse, the Autobots and Maximals (and Noah and Elena) join forces to stop the villains once and for all. Elena uses the markings she found to come up with a code that can disable the key. The heroes then charge into battle, with Primal commanding Rhinox and Cheetor to morph into their Transformers bodies to fight against the incoming horde of Scorponoks. Mirage helps Noah and Elena find an entry point to get up to the platform to enter the code. Optimus and Primal then team up with rip Battletrap apart before Primal smashes his head with his own wrecking ball.

Unicron starts getting closer to Earth, with his presence reaching other cities like back in New York. When Noah gets closer, Scourge attempts to kill him, but Mirage uses his body to shield Noah before he is also killed. However, Mirage is able to transfer part of his body to the wrist device to create a suit for Noah to utilize in battle after hearing Kris talking to him over Mirage's radio. The energy waves from the key also manage to charge the energy, bringing Bee back to life. He enters the battle and proceeds to help turn things around, including him flying into the sky with Nightbird and tearing her to pieces. Optimus battles Scourge, nearly winning until Scourge blasts the computer being used for Elena to enter the key, rendering it useless. Optimus dismembers Scourge before ripping his head off and then resolving to destroy the key himself to prevent Unicron from getting closer. The key explodes, causing a vortex that sends Unicron away but nearly pulls Optimus with it until Primal and Noah help pull him back.

While Unicron may still be out there, the Autobots and Maximals acknowledge their victory and part ways. Noah and Elena fly home in Stratosphere, and he returns home to Kris and their mom.

Later on, Noah is up for another job interview. He meets a man named Agent Burke (Michael Kelly), who knows about Noah being in Peru and working with the Autobots, though Noah tries to deny it. Burke offers Noah a chance to join a secret government organization, even guaranteeing that Kris's medical expenses will be covered. Noah is incredibly thankful and watches as Burke enters a secret room filled with vehicles, gadgets, and other top secret things. Noah then looks at Burke's business card and learns the name of the organization - G.I. JOE.

During the credits, Noah is with Reek as he is fixing up Mirage. Reek thinks it's pointless until Noah calls upon Mirage to turn on, and the Autobot comes back to life proudly.

Chronic Pain Thoughts: Volume 12 Dopesick V Painkiller

 Dear Reader,

As someone who deals with chronic pain, I am directly invested in the issues around the medications to treat chronic pain. Currently I get next to nothing to deal with pain most people wouldn't be able to function with. This is probably true for most people reading this.

I watched Dope Sick when it came out and I watched Pain Killer. Both shows get to the root of the pharmaceutical company who started this all. What they don't touch on is the millions of people who are affected daily by chronic pain who can't get relief. These shows touch on the greed and lies told by the drug makers. They touch on the lives that were ruined because of it. What we need is a show that touches on those of us who have to suffer because of the ignorance and lies told to doctors. These are truly one-sided stories.

The news tends to show us the worst of the worst, fear mongering is what I refer to it. Along with the stop smoking commercials. The worst possible thing that could happen is shown. Each time, no middle ground.

Yes, this show how the pharmaceutical reps were lied to, they intern lied to the doctors. People got addicted because they were given the drug for things, they didn't need it for. It was over prescribed. The same goes for drug commercials, it shows all that's wrong with US.

It's because of all this I need to have to pee in a cup, have my pills counted in front of me and be treated like an addicted all to have less pain. I've been subject to lab tests, MRI's, X-Rays and CT scans all to prove that I actually have things wrong with me. Yet, I am still treated like this every month, it's humiliating. I know I'm not the only one.

Thoughts:

This series was both hard to watch and hard NOT to watch. So many extra parts were added for story that didn't need to be there. This was about Purdue and not about the millions of pain patients. This showed how easy doctors were persuaded into prescribing medications that they didn't know anything about. It showed how easily people can be persuaded by money and freebies.

Painkiller

Came out; 2023

Watched: Netflix

Rated: TV-MA

IMDB Rating; 7.5/10

Caution; Spoiler Alert

Staring;

Uzo Aduba as Edie Flowers

Matthew Broderick as Richard Sackler

Taylor Kitsch as Glen Kryger

Dina Shihabi as Britt Hufford

West Duchovny as Shannon Scaeffer

John Rothman as Mortimer Sackler

Story Line;

Painkiller exposes the roots of the most pressing health epidemic of the 21st century. Powerful narcotic painkillers, or opioids, were once used as drugs of last resort for pain sufferers. Purdue turned OxyContin into a billion dollar blockbuster by launching an unprecedented marketing campaign claiming that the drug's long-acting formulation made it safer to use than traditional painkillers for many types of pain. That illusion was quickly shattered as drug abusers learned that crushing an Oxy could release its narcotic payload all at once. Even in its prescribed form, Oxy proved fiercely addictive. As OxyContin's use and abuse grew, Purdue concealed what it knew from regulators, doctors, and patients.

Thoughts:

As with Dopesick, this shows how the drug came to be and how the pharmaceutical reps were led into believing they were doing good things. This shows all the same thing as Dopesick and also has real people share the loved ones they lost.

What both of these series don't show is what happens to the people who are truly in chronic pain and how they were treated after everything came out about the addictiveness of OxyContin. Both shows depict real people who had a reason for their pain, how because of what doctors were told, OxyContin was prescribed in large doses and the patients became addicted.

Both shows only show the worst part of the whole thing. Nobody seems to want to focus on the plight of actual chronic pain patients who just want to go along with their daily lives without pain. Stop telling the same stories and change the narrative

Thoughts: I couldn't find the description, but wow does this smell amazing!

Scent: Serendipity Florida Key Lime Pie Birthday Cake

Thoughts: I generally hate these types of blends, the lime is always dominant for me, but this one is great! The lime is in the background.

Scent: Blueberry Cobbler Tea & Cakes

Thoughts: OMG, both these scents by themselves are nice, together they are even better

Overall Order Thoughts:

I like this vendor; I have for a while. The fruity blends I get from here don't throw as well as bakery, so I avoid the fruits. Super quick shipping for RTS and even quicker because she is only an hour away from me.

I miss being able to go to the store for pick up. The prices are also just a little high so I don't buy often
