Chronic Pain Thoughts: Volume 11

 Dear Reader,

We need to somehow change the narrative on the medications “approved” to treat fibromyalgia and chronic pain. The medications that are often used are not pain medications.

After my experience on blinding taking the medications the doctor's said would help and ending up in withdrawal hell when I knew they were no longer working and making things worse, I recommend you looking up everything! We have to do this in order to protect ourselves.

According to the National Fibromyalgia Association the following medications are approved.

Lyrica (Pregabalin); It can treat nerve and muscle pain, including fibromyalgia. It can also treat seizures.

Cymbalta (Duloxetine); It can treat depression, anxiety, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, fibromyalgia, and chronic muscle or bone pain.

Savella (Milnacipran); Antidepressant and Nerve pain medication
It can treat fibromyalgia.

Gabapentin (Neurontin) This isn't on the approved list, but its often time prescribed before Lyrica; It can treat seizures and pain caused by shingles.

There is a separate post on this medication, it's terrible and please see the Facebook group; Cymbalta Hurts Worse before even trying this. You will never be able to get off if taken for more than 2 weeks and it will forever change your brain.

Just based on the above, they try to give us anti-depressants and anti-seizure medications which are NOT PAIN MEDICATIONS!!

Most of us are in pain, our insomnia is because of pain and all the above medications will make that worse! It's absolutely insane to me how we are treated, we are often ignored and have to deal with pain that normally people wouldn't. It's unfair and barbaric!

Research medications have open and honest conversations and remember, the doctor works for you, if you don't feel heard or are uncomfortable, switch if you can or speak to the clinic. Complaints go on file and are accessible for anyone if you ask!
