Story Line.
Vic and Melinda Van Allen are a couple in the small town of Little Wesley. Their loveless marriage is held together only by a precarious arrangement whereby, in order to avoid the messiness of divorce, Melinda is allowed to take any number of lovers as long as she does not desert her family. Vic becomes fascinated with the unsolved murder of one of Melinda's former lovers, Malcolm McRae, and, in order to successfully drive away her current fling, takes credit for the killing. When the real murderer is apprehended, Vic's claims are interpreted by the community as dark jokes
Thoughts.
The previews for this movie made it look really good. With Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck it seemed like it'd be at least decent. No, it wasn't, it was strange and confusing. This was nothing like the preview and there wasn't much of an explanation. The story-line says “When the real murderer is apprehended” I don't even recall that happening.
If you want to see Ana de Armas naked and have nothing better to do, watch this, if not I recommend that you skip it.
CAUTION; Major Spoiler Alert
There isn't one so I'm going to do my best.
The movie opens with Vic (Ben Affleck) putting his bike on the porch will Melinda (Ana de Armas) is sitting on the outside stairs that lead upstairs. Vic is dirty and is taking off his clothes on the porch. She says something to him that I just can't recall and walks up.
Vic and Melinda go to a lot of parties where they dress in fancy clothes. Melinda seems to be the life of the party and Vic just goes along with it. Melinda sleeps around a lot, calls her lovers her friends. Vic knows about this because she makes out with these dudes while he is at the fancy parties with her.
Vic has a place on his property where he takes care of snails, IDK if this means anything at all or if it just points out to how strange Vic is.
During one of these fancy parties, Melinda's “Friend” is found dead in the pool. She blames Vic but he claims he was in the kitchen. A little while later we see a flash back of Vic drowning the friend in the pool.
Sometime later after more weird things happen, Vic takes another one of Melinda's “Friends” to the quarry and we actually see Vic kill him.
Really, the movie ends just like it started, so weird
